Summer Makeup Favourites (2020)

Well, I’m still working from home, and I can’t really go anywhere without constantly giving my nose, mouth and chin a mini-sauna, courtesy of a surgical mask, so I’ve become less and less interested in outfits and clothes, and more and more into makeup. I can still look cute in my Zoom meetings, full glam on the face and pyjamas on my legs.

Summer Makeup Favourites
Tan and glittery. That’s my theme for this summer.

I’ve been really into the YSL Touche Éclat Le Teint foundation – BD30 is my summer shade, and this is kind of new for me, but I love the dewy finish on my skin. It has very decent coverage but looks so natural at the same time. I just have a sneaking suspicion that this breaks me out – the verdict is still out and I’m really crossing my fingers that it’s “not guilty”.

Make UP Forever Aqua Cream in shade 13: are these still around? I’ve used it so much that I’ve hit the bottom. This never seems to dry up, however after it sets on the eyelid it does not budge. Makeup Forever, coming through with the long lasting professional makeup. This is a basic shimmery champagne that works anywhere, anytime.

I’ve been using the Stila Glitter & Glow Liquid Eyeshadows in shades Dollish (top) and Embellish (bottom) – the hype is real. Glitter without the mess. And these coral/rose gold shades are divine.

The only way I like to consume peaches.

I have gotten a tan from going to the beach – one of the perks of working from home is being able to do it from my home town, that’s in Algarve. Yep, I’m one of those people who grew up on an international beach vacation destination – and it was great. Go ahead, you can hate me a little bit.

With a bit of a tan I’m leaning towards glowy, peachy, coral blushes that lean more orange than pink: here depicted are, from left to right, Nabla Skin Glazing powder in the shade Truth, Clinique Ginger Pop blush, and MAC Fairly Precious Extra Dimension blush. They are all that dense baked texture that’s high shine and makes me look so healthy, even though judging by the amount of Doritos I’ve eaten I’m clearly not.

OMG I’m being so bougie (the bougiest!) with my bronzers. Bougie, bronzed and broke.

For bronzers, I’ve been using the By Terry Brightening CC palette (review here) bronzer shade, and the Sisley phyto-touche bronzer. I’m into sheen-y/shimmery bronzers. Apparently I’m into everything shimmery/shiny/glittery this Summer. I guess if you can’t find a metaphorical beacon of light in this gloomy goddamn year, become a literal one, right? Bah.

Anyway, I got the Sisley Phyto-Touche bronzer to possibly wear on my wedding day, and I love it, it’s (again) that baked gelée formula that looks like skin, but sheen-y skin, with tiny specks of gold shimmer. It looks like I’ll go through it fast though.

Shimmer, shine, sheen. I’m the sparkle queen.

The Smashbox Cali Contour palette was a birthday gift and an unexpected surprise. The powders are smooth, blend like a dream, and they’re deliciously warm and bronze-y – even the matte shades. The bronzer shade (top right pan) is the only matte bronzer I’m actually into right now, because the color is spot on and the finish is very skin-like.

My love for the Guerlain Brazilian Fizz Météorites is not a secret (review here). And at any chance I have to get out of the house I’m busting out my Sephora Illuminating Bronzing Oil. The bronze tint is very subtle, what this really does is giving my legs a shimmer bath. Glow specks all over. Again, can I just put down the glitter??

No.

These are the outcasts – the only products in this list that don’t have a bronze, beige, or pink outfit packaging.

The Shiseido UV Protective Liquid Foundation SPF30 has been a staple for so many years that I’ve actually had a longer relationship with it than with Sir Fiancé. I fell in love ten years ago, then it underwent a reformulation, and since it came back it hasn’t been the same, but I still love it. It’s still a better foundation than most out there. Long lasting, natural finish, high coverage. Goes with me everywhere, even to the beach – nothing is too much of a challenge for this little blue android looking thing. I’ve repurchased it 5 times, that’s how loyal I’ve been.

A recent addition to my stash is the bareMinerals Endless Glow highlighter in shade Whimsy – don’t let the white pan fool you, this is a very light, airy pink, and I’ve been reaching for it again and again. The Clarins Mineral Sun Care Compact (review here) has been fun to use on no-makeup makeup days, and the Urban Decay All Nighter setting spray, with its anti-makeup-melting magic, remains a favorite and a staple.
