Top Favourite Lilac and Purple Blushes (Updated! 2023)

The post I’ve done about purple and lavender blushes in 2021 has been one of my most popular posts of all time. Almost 3 years later and a few extra launches, I think it’s time for an update.

This is more of a list about currently available lavender and purple blushes rather than just favourites, because selection is so small to begin with, and it seems like these shades are the first to get discontinued, that I don’t have a big enough collection to just pick a few favourites. Some of these will be repeated from my previous post, but three shades are new. I’ll have comparative swatches at the end so you can assess the differences are see what might fit you better!

Lethal Cosmetics Aster

I reviewed this earlier this year, and I’m not sure how long this is going to stay in Lethal Cosmetic’s permanent line since they seem to renew their blush selection quite often, but a good thing about Lethal is that they seem to always carry at least one lavender shade. Currently, Aster is what is available, and it’s an amazing blush – great texture, nicely pigmented, lasts a long time – but it’s the hardest shade on this list to pull off because it’s very cool toned.

Moira Berry Flirty

I have a full review on this blush here, but long story short, not the best, but the cheapest. Takes a bit of work, but you can get it to look good on the cheeks… eventually. Truly, if you were always curious to try this shade on your skintone but are unsure if it’ll work – and rightly so, this is a hard shade to pull off – this is a good one to get.

Flower Knows Pure Rhyme

Flower Knows Pure Rhyme review swatches

Full review here. This looks pinker in the pan, but the swatch leans more lavender. It’s sheer and very easy to apply, but it could be too ashy for darker skintones. It’s lovely if you want a wash of colour and don’t want your blush to be too obvious.

There is another blush from Flower Knows that you’ll see in the comparison swatches, and that is the Goddess Blush in Henbane (full review here). That shade was still available earlier this year but I believe it has been discontinued. It’s a very light, almost white lilac shade that is not wearable at all – I have it here just so you can see how un-blush-like it is. It’s more of a novelty item for me.

La Femme Blushes: Mulberry, Purple Passion

Top Favourite Lilac and Purple Blushes

On my 2021 post I went on and on about La Femme blushes – I won’t repeat myself here. This time around I won’t be including Mauve Sparkle in the comparison swatches since next to every other blush on this list, it does not look purple at all, just mauve. Mulberry, however, is a medium-deep lavender colour, and Purple Passion, as the name indicates, is a purple, with a bit of shimmer. These blushes are unreasonably pigmented – to the point that it’s hard to get them to not look clownish, at least on a fair skintone. They are reliable, but you need the lightest of hands when using them.

La Femme blushes are still available at Camera Ready Cosmetics (this is not an affiliate link), which is where I purchased them, but you can probably find them on other websites as well.

Clinique Pansy Pop

Top Favourite Lilac and Purple Blushes

This is another blush that I’ve mentioned in the 2021 post. I think Pansy Pop often comes out in palettes but you can get it in an individual pot as well. It’s a pinker lavender, easier to pull off if you have a warm skintone, and the Cheek Pop blush line is one of my all time favourites: easy to blend out, great finish on the skin, and great lasting power.

Mac Full of Joy

Top Favourite Lilac and Purple Blushes

In my previous post I put this shade in the “discontinued” section but I’m resuscitating it because apparently, it’s not discontinued everywhere, just in the places I tried to look for it. I don’t know MAC’s criteria about what shades to keep where (they didn’t used to have Soft Brown available in Portugal back when that was one of the most popular shades, go figure) but if you can get your hands on this, get it. It’s still my favourite lilac blush. It’s pigmented enough, it’s easy to apply, and most of all, it’s easy to pull off while still looking quite lilac-y on the skin.

Comparison Swatches

By far, the Lethal Cosmetics Aster is the coolest toned blush. Second to that is MAC’s Full of Joy and Moira Berry Flirty. Those two shades look similar in the picture, but MAC’s Full of Joy is lighter, cooler and has a shimmery finish. Flower Knows Pure Rhyme is one of the pinkest, but it’s more lavender than Clinique’s Pansy Pop, although just looking at the shades in the pan, you wouldn’t be able to tell. Lastly, La Femme ‘s Mulberry and Purple Passion remain the most colour saturated and intense blushes in the list. As I’ve mentioned before, I added the Henbane swatch (full review here) just so you could see how it compares to more “traditional” blush colours.

In my previous post I asked for readers’ suggestions about purple and lavender blushes in the comments, so that the post could become a reference page for people who are looking for these shades. I’ll repeat the same request 🙂 and I’ll add here the two other suggestions that reader Martha P. commented on that post, for cream blushes (which is something I rarely feature in this blog, so thank you in filling out that gap Martha!): Illamasqua’s Color Veil gel blush in Frisson and Danessa Myricks Vision Flush in Grape.

Hope this is helpful!
