Review, Swatches | Moira Blushing Goddess Duo in Berry Flirty

Being as I am, forever looking for lilac blushes, I was dumbfounded by finding out that Moira, this pretty inexpensive brand, had one within its range. I just waited patiently until the blush duo in Berry Flirty was on sale and I snatch it up as soon as it was.

The shade Berry Flirty is not berry at all: on the left we have a neutral, maybe even warm toned lavender/lilac colour, and on the right there is a yellow based bright fuchsia pink. Mixed together, you get a very cool toned, bright pink.

Texture and application: both sides of the powder blush feel dry to the touch, but the lavender colour feels a bit softer, smoother. They are hard pressed, and probably because of it, there is no powder kick up even if I use a coarser brush. As you can see from the swatches, they are a bit patchy, with the hot pink colour looking like the worst offender. I was surprised though that the patchiness was not that hard to blend out on the cheeks. It seems like the more layers of blush I apply, the easier it gets to blend the blush out, so it ends up being a fine balance between pigmentation and making it look smooth on the cheeks. I also found that each shade individually applied better than both mixed together – together they just looked uneven and even more patchy.

Pigmentation and finish: this blush is intensely pigmented, particularly the pink shade. Even with a light hand, I felt that it was too much colour. You can blend it out to make it look slightly more sheer, but the best way to subdue the pigmentation is applying a face powder on top. It is not the most natural looking blush on the skin, being so bright and matte, but it does not look talc-y or dry either.

Longevity: it lasts very well. On a powdered face (but with no setting spray) I only noticed some fading after 11 hours.

Packaging & Other info: this is a cardboard compact that has a mirror on the inside, and the total amount is 7,5 grams, so I’m assuming each colour has 3,75 grams. The pans are big enough to individually fit a big blush brush. Price is 9,50€ on Maquibeauty (not affiliated), although I managed to get it on sale for little over 5€.

Final thoughts: it is so hard to find a truly lilac blush at such a low price point that if you’ve ever wanted to try the colour but never been able to justify purchasing a blush this odd, this is the chance to do it. This product is not without faults, but it performs better on the cheeks than it does on the swatches, and it may take more work to get it to look good on the skin but you can get there (eventually). Not the best, but I still recommend it if you want to experiment with less conventional colours.
