Review, Swatches | Make-up Atelier Paris Cream Eye Shadow in Violine Brown

I’ve reviewed a palette from Make-up Atelier Paris, and if you read that review you’ll know that my shopping experience wasn’t that great – but still, I left the store with three products, and this cream eyeshadow is one of them.

Well, one thing I can say is that quality varies depending on the product.

Which is a good thing because the palette was mediocre, but the cream eyeshadow outperforms it – by a lot.

The shade is a purplish taupe with a strong shine. If you build it up the shimmer gets more noticeable and it looks like little glass particles on your eyes.

Texture and application: the eyeshadow is a drier type of consistency (although it shows no signs of being dried up) that really needs the heat from your fingers to warm up and get more creamy. Because of this, I don’t recommend applying it with a brush, fingers work best. It’s easy to blend out and build up. When I add more layers, it doesn’t turn patchy nor lifts up the product underneath. It takes its time to dry down on the lids to a point where it doesn’t move anymore, but it never really feels like a powder – it’s always a little bit sticky.

Pigmentation and finish: pigmentation is medium, you can get the same opacity as the right swatch on my hand (the blended out one) with just one layer, but has you can see from the left swatch, you can build up the colour too with no issues. It has a metallic-like finish.

Longevity: I tested this cream eyeshadow without primer because I usually use my cream shadows as a one-and-done eyeshadow look, or has a primer themselves. Without setting the crease with powder, the cream eyeshadow started to migrate and crease a little bit after 5 hours of wear – which is impressive since like I mentioned above, this never fully dries down. By the end of that day I had an almost bald spot on my lid on the area that get’s hidden by my hooded eye. When I did set my crease with powder (just the crease, nothing else) this lasted the whole day (11+ hours) without moving or fading.

Packaging & other info: this comes in a glass jar with a plastic lid but without any inner lid to prevent it from drying up – although mine remains just as fresh as when I first bought it over a year ago. It costs 15,00 € and each pot contains 4 grams of product.

Final thoughts: I’m so, so happy that not everything from Make-up Atelier was disappointing. This has actually become one of my favourite cream eyeshadows. The colour is neutral but still interesting, it performs really well and it’s not messy or complicated to use. Seems like it will last a long time, and it’s not too expensive for a mid-point (price wise) brand. If I ever get the chance to purchase from Make-up Atelier Paris again, I’ll try another shade.
