Review | Furla Portagioia Bag

furla portagioia review

Furla is an underrated brand. They are priced at that mid tier level between high street fashion and designer (I think we are calling them “contemporary” brands now?) so they are relatively affordable but don’t really skimp on quality and retain that luxury feel. There needs to be more reviews on Furla bags, so let me start with Portagioia.

I chose this radioactive green shade because I needed an objectively green handbag (not teal, not mint, just green) and I found the Portagioia shape dainty enough to counterbalance the brightness of the colour. It’s made of a soft leather, it has gold coloured hardware, and on the front beneath the flap there is a bit of patent leather that gives the bag a bit more visual interest.

Portagioia is a mini crossbody bag that has a curved shape and the flap closes shut with a coin-purse-like clasp. The flap opens and sits upright and that is the most practical opening ever: easy access to the inside of the bag without having to fumble with zippers and strings and a floppy flap.

Space is not abundant, but for a mini bag it’s not too bad. It fits a smartphone but it might not have enough room for one with a huge screen, which seems to be the norm nowadays – I believe mine is about the size of a 6.1″ screen phone and I can even fit it upright, but laying down there’s a bit more space for a larger one.

It can also fit a small wallet, and there is still a bit of room for keys and a lipstick. I always have small but thick wallets (because I want to carry coins, bills and cards all in the same place) and mine fits easily in this bag. If you only carry cards, there are a few compartments in the bag where you can organize them. There is a pocket in the back, the inside is divided into two spaces and there is a little card pocket in the interior as well, as you can see in the photo.

One thing I dislike is the canvas strap. I’m probably going to get another strap (maybe a metallic chain) to wear with this bag, because the strap that it came with is too sporty for my taste – and too sporty for the bag shape itself, in my opinion. It’s usable, but not ideal for the style. If you want to see it in action, I wore the bag as is in this post.

Furla has yet to disappoint me. It is a reliable brand with great value and a few really unique designs.
