Review, Swatches | Moira Supernova Multichrome Gel Liner in Electra

Multichromes are all the rage. I’m happy to rage along, multichromes have been the most noteworthy innovation in makeup in the last few years for me – and this is the first time I get to try them in eyeliner form. Moira just recently released their Multichrome Gel Liners and I would have gotten more shades if they weren’t sold out – but for now, I have Electra to test.

The Supernova Multichrome Gel Liner in the shade Electra is actually more of a “shimmer stick” than a typical coloured eyeliner. This shade has a clear base and it is packed full with multichrome shimmer. I think you’ll be able to see what I mean from the swatches below, even though they don’t quite translate how reflective the shimmer is. The shimmer shifts from a coppery peach to a light yellow, to a lime green, and on some angles you can even see a more cooler toned, darker green.

Texture and Application: the eyeliner feels creamy and applies evenly without pulling or tugging on the skin. It does not dry down too fast so there is time to blend it out if wanted. I tested it on the waterline as well, and although application was smooth and easy, it felt quite gritty there (it didn’t feel gritty on the eyelid). Word of warning, the tip is prone to breaking (I have to roll up only a small amount each time in order for the tip not to break off).

Pigmentation: This has a clear base, so pigmentation is not really fully opaque in one pass, but I think that is how it’s supposed to be. You can intensify it with multiply strokes, so it is buildable, but it’ll never be fully opaque, you’ll always be able to see the skin underneath it. This eyeliner (at least this shade) is clearly all about the shimmer – and it can look quite intense on the lid!

Longevity: I was stunned. This clings to the skin so strongly it makes a barnacle look like it has commitment issues. It lasted on my eyelids an obscene amount of time and I did not notice any fading by the time I went to remove it. A bit of the shimmer had migrated slightly, but it was a very small amount. The swatches on my hand did not went away nor faded when I washed it with soap, and most impressively, this was one of the longest lasting eyeliners I’ve ever tried on my waterline (which makes me so excited to try their coloured liners too). Apparently, this eyeliner’s kryptonite is oil, not water – you can easily remove it with an oil based makeup remover, but water does not make it budge.

Packaging & Other Info: packaging is a transparent twist up tube with the lid on one side, and a tiny sharpener on the other that is meant to keep the tip pointy. Price is currently 7,99€ on maquibeauty.com (not affiliated), although I bought it there for 11,99€! Bah! I guess they lowered the price, which was considerably more expensive than on Moira’s website – however if you live outside the US, the shipping from Moira is super expensive, plus you’ll have to deal with import taxes, so even at 11,99€ it was worth it to buy from Maquibeauty.

Final Thoughts: I think it’ll be hard to sharpen the tip to a point where you’d be able to get a very thin line, but other than that, this is amazing. You can wear this with just a bit of mascara and have an instant attention-grabbing look. This multichrome shimmer looks quite impressive, and it is so long lasting. I will be getting more shades.
