Day 2 of 12 Days of Xmas 2021: My Favourite Concealers

Yes, ’tis the season to talk about makeup favourites, and I decided to do my all time holy grails, not just things I bought or came out this year. First day was yesterday. Today, category is… concealers. But this series of posts is inspired by the 12 Days of Christmas song, soo…

On the Second day of Christmas, myself gave to me,

Two great concealers

And a Rephr brush set under the tree.

Are you cringing? Buckle up, it’s 12 days of this.

I think I’ve mentioned before, I’m not a big concealer fan. Full coverage foundation is my favourite way to fool people into thinking I’m healthy and take care of my skin. However, sometimes you find products that are so good they make the extra step worth it. And they are:

YSL Touche Éclat Concealer in shade 2.5

I was always too sceptical of this type of concealer because it never made sense to me that I would use something with lighter coverage on an area of my face that actually needed more concealing. The good thing about the YSL Touch Éclat pen, however, is that it’s more about luminosity that opaqueness. It disguises the under eye area by bouncing off light, and it’ll work well for people who have deep set eyes and have an under eye shadow rather than lack-of-sleep circles. It’s easy to blend and it’s really pretty on the skin. You do need to set it with powder, but once you do, it lasts pretty well.

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser in shade Light

Now here’s something that could cover up Watergate if Nixon used Maybelline – and do it naturally. My problem with full coverage concealers is that they tend to look waxy, heavy, and dry – but this concealer is none of that. The opaqueness is impressive for how thin it is, and how natural it looks on the skin. Honestly, it’s so good that I use it instead of foundation sometimes. It blends nicely, without streaks or patches, and stays put. I’ll always need to set my under eye area because regardless of the product, it’ll always settle a bit into my fine lines, but this concealer is the one that has resisted the most to creasing, a true MVP for dark circles. And obviously, works great for pimples/marks/spots on the rest of the face.

Neither of these are new in the market, and we’ve been hearing about them for years. I know a recent launch would be more sexy, but the thing is, I think these are better. I haven’t tried anything more recent that could beat them, and there’s nothing wrong with tried and true. I feel that’s actually going to be a theme with my favourites posts. Hopefully they remind someone out there to dust off their once popular makeup thing and relive that “OMG get on my face now” feeling they had when first using them.

  1. I love YSL concealer and I agree with you it works best to brighten up the eye contour rather than covering up and hiding away dark circles. I haven’t tried the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser concealer but after reading your review it’s a must-try for me!
