Review, Swatches | r.e.m. beauty Interstellar Highlighter Topper in Miss Uranus

rem beauty Miss Uranus

I told you I was going to get another shade of Ariana Grande’s beauty brand highlighters. I had a hard time picking out which, but ended up choosing Uranus for more reasons than the name and the potential for “where the sun does shine” jokes.

Miss Uranus is a light shimmery coppery pink. It is a nearly rose gold shade, and I chose it because it seemed like it could work well for multiple skintones, plus it is still a somewhat unique highlighter shade.

Texture and application: texture is consistent with the other shade I tried, Miss Neptune: it’s a thick powder, with some creaminess to it, and it’s easy to pick up enough colour with a soft, more feathery brush. I noticed no powder kick-up with this shade. Application is smooth, with no patchiness, and it was very easily blendable.

Pigmentation and finish: it is decently pigmented, but still buildable. What draw me to these highlighters was the peculiar finish: very natural looking, like part of the skin, yet still pretty impactful. Miss Uranus however is much closer to a traditional highlighter: more shimmery, more reflective, but more artificial. And unlike Miss Neptune, this shade does emphasise skin texture a bit. It’s not a super metallic highlighter, and the more you blend it in the more natural it looks, but it never quite reaches Miss Neptune’s luminosity. It’s right in between a traditional highlighter and Miss Neptune’s formula.

Longevity: it lasted very well. The shine was still going strong after 12 hours of wear (over a powdered face, but with no setting spray).

Comparisons & Dupes: I’ve swatched Miss Neptune next to Miss Uranus just to compare the shine. Hopefully you can tell the difference. I also pulled out some highlighters that could be similar. The closest is the right side of the Pixi by Petra highlighter, Subtle Sunrise. Catrice 3D Glow Highlighter in the shade 010 Pinch of Rose is darker and more coppery. MAC Beauty Powder in Pearl Sunshine is peachier, and MAC Petallic Metallic Extra Dimension Skinfinish is a lot lighter, with bigger and sparser shimmer particles.

Packaging & Other Info: the compact is heavy and feels luxurious to me. It has a mirror on the inside, and the total amount of product is 8 grams, which leans on the bigger size for highlighters. The price is 25,99€.

Final Thoughts: This is not a bad product, but I feel duped. I was hoping for the unique (albeit controversial) finish that Miss Neptune has, and this is not quite it. I probably would not have bought it had I known this, but I can see myself still using it frequently. I recommend people test these out in store if possible. But if you do like the colour and finish, it’s a solid highlighter that performs really well.
