Review, Swatches | Gucci Bronzing Powder in shade 01

I have quite a variety of bronzers, yet they rarely get a spotlight on this blog. Time to correct that. One of the most beautiful compacts I own is the Gucci bronzing powder, and I’ll be letting you know if it’s as good on the inside as it is pretty on the outside.

The Gucci Bronzing Powder in shade 01 is a very light, rosy toned brown with a matte finish. It’s a bit too rosy for my strongly yellow undertoned skin, and I wish I had chosen another more fitting shade when I got it (even if it meant it was a bit darker).

The little black dots on the mirror are not spiders, they’re tiny arrows on the plastic cover that I’ve never removed.

Texture and application: the powder feels incredibly soft and smooth to the touch. I don’t find that I get any powder kick up, regardless of the brush I use. I can get a decent amount of powder with a softer brush. I did find that I had to work a bit to blend it out properly – it is not patchy, but where you first lay your brush is where you deposit the most amount of colour, and it sticks to the skin, so you have to blend quite a bit to make the application look even. You get there, but there is some work to it.

Pigmentation and finish: pigmentation is medium, and it is buildable, although with such a light colour you can never get it to be too strong. It has a matte finish, but it’s not too dry or flat – it’s a natural matte.

Longevity: I noticed longevity varied according to the base I was wearing. With long lasting foundations, it lasted without fading for over 10 hours. Over a base that started to get oily a lot sooner, this went for 6 and a half hours before fading. It faded evenly though, so that’s a good thing.

Packaging and other info: Gucci has this vintage vibe when it comes to packaging and I am living for it. It is quite bulky but I don’t mind it since I display it in my room. It has a mirror and a compartment for a little brush that I’ve never used. The powder also has a light floral scent. The total amount is 12 grams, which is pretty large for a face product, and price is just as large: 54.

Final thoughts: This is a really lovely bronzer. I bought it mainly because of the packaging, because I’m that shallow, but I’m very happy that I actually like how this performs. Unfortunately, for very light skin tones with warm undertones, like me, I don’t think they offer an ideal shade, but I guess there are probably a lot of skintones with the same issue. If you can find a shade that suits you, this is a good (and pretty!) option.
