Jordan Samuel Hydrate The Mist Review

After so many makeup reviews in a row, it’s time for some skincare. A mist isn’t necessarily something that I would seek but I have a few that I got in kits/GWP/advent calendars and decided to give them a chance. Of the ones I’ve tried, the Jordan Samuel Skin mist stood out.

The only face mists I’ve ever purchased were setting sprays. And I do mean setting sprays, that make makeup last at least 50% longer, not the”mists” or “finishing sprays” that are only meant to refresh or remove the powdery look from the face (looking at you, MAC Fix+). These last ones, to me, are “designer water”. Just as expensive and frivolous as that sounds.

This one, however, felt different. The Jordan Samuel Skin Mist is not meant to be used on top of makeup. The spray is aggressive and it deposits big water droplets on the skin so it will ruin whatever look you have – definitely do not use it on top of non-waterproof mascara. Honestly, the spray it’s so intense you could get a dog to stop barking with it.

Jordan Samuel Skin Hydrate The Mist Ingredients: Water/Aqua/Eau, Glycerin, Betaine, Propanediol, Chondrus Crispus (Carrageenan) Extract, Lithothamnion Calcareum Extract, Hyaluronic Acid, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Punica Granatum Fruit Extract, 1,2-Hexanediol, Panthenol, Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate, Passiflora Incarnata Flower Extract, Disodium EDTA, Butylene Glycol, Tamarindus Indica Fruit Extract, Sodium Hydroxide, Caprylhydroxamic Acid.

Spray violence factor aside, once on the skin, the mist feels nice and hydrating. It gets tacky to the touch when it dries down, but it’s not oily. On my skin it does feel like a “creamy” water, a liquid that’s a bit more rich than just simple H2O.

Instructions indicate to use this right after cleansing and I definitely agree that’s the best time to put it on. Even with gentle cleansers, if I’m removing my makeup my skin will likely feel tight afterwards because I am diligently cleaning and stripping my face of its superficial contents. Spraying this immediately alleviates that feeling – but unlike spritzing plain water, this contains a nice mix of humectants and some soothing ingredients (like cucumber and vitamin B5).

I would recommend applying an occlusive moisturizer on top, because humectants like hyaluronic acid, which this contains, draw moisture from the closest thing it attaches to, so eventually, when this water evaporates from your face, if those hyaluronic acid molecules have nothing to draw water from they will start to pull it from the skin, so a cream that acts as a barrier and traps this mist on the skin surface is key to get the most out of something like this.

Essential? No. But it’s nice to have. It serves its purpose of hydrating and refreshing, and provides instant relief after a thorough cleanse. Not sure I’ll repurchase at 34€ for 120 ml, but I’m glad I have it.
