Every year, Clarins comes out with a limited edition bronzing compact for their summer collection. I haven’t tried any before, which is actually surprising because I’m a fan of Clarins face powders. 2021 was the year, I guess (and yes, we are all ignoring this was supposed to be a low buy year).
Usually Clarins’ bronzing compacts have multiple shades, and this year is no different. The Frozen collection Sunkissed Healthy Glow Powder has three stripes of different coloured brown powders: a warm, medium dark brown on the top left, a light peachy brown in the middle, and a cool toned medium-light brown on the bottom right. When blended all together, the bronzer is a light warm toned brown. Honestly, this shade only works for very fair to light skintones. If I tan a bit I can no longer see this bronzer making a difference on my complexion. I don’t know if bronzing compacts from previous years have catered to other skintones, but this one, even with three different shades, is not that versatile.
The powders are soft and smooth, but very hard pressed into the pan, specially the lighter shades. This means there’s no powder kick up when I dip a brush in it, but there’s also not a lot of product picked up by the brush either. It’s not a necessarily a bad thing, it gives you more control over pigmentation, but it also means it’ll take you longer to apply it if you want any payoff that’s a bit more than “subtle”.
The powders are easy to blend and look very natural on the skin. I would say the finish is a satin-matte – no shimmer whatsoever, but not a dry flat matte either. Lasting power is good also – with powder and setting spray, I didn’t even noticed any fading after a 10 hour day.
The compact contains a really big mirror and 18 grams of product. It’s huge! It’s 45€ but during summer Clarins usually has some promotions so I got it in a 2 for 3 deal.
Clarins knows how to make a face powder. The product is good, through and through – the only problem is that the shade will not work for a lot of people. It barely works for me and I’m very pale, so I would advise to try it/swatch it in store, Covid restrictions allowing it, before taking the plunge.
