Review | Simple Water Boost Hydrating Gel Cream (a solution for oily dehydrated sensitive skin)

You know how, even though you feel very powerful in a freakum dress and high heels, you sometimes just need to put on that beat up cardigan and loose sweat pants and be comfortable and snug? This is what this product is. The granny pants of moisturizers. Not very sexy, definitely not something new, but God forbid if you don’t have one.

My skin isn’t particularly sensitive – honestly, it can take a lot – and I’ve been experimenting during this quarantine. I find myself turning to this gel cream when the shiny cool kids my skin started to hang out with (retinol, you’re the Regina George of the pack) are giving it a hard time. It’s great for when my skin is too sensitized.

Simple Water Boost Hydrating Gel Cream Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Glycerin, Dimethicone, Butylene Glycol, Isohexadecane, Propylene Glycol, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Hydrogenated Poly(C6-14 Olefin), Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/Beheneth-25 Methacrylate Crosspolymer, Linoleamidopropyl PG-Dimonium Chloride Phosphate, Stearic Acid, BHT, Disodium EDTA, Sodium PCA, Saccharide Isomerate, t-Butyl Alcohol, Potassium Chloride, Sodium Chloride, Citric Acid, Sodium Citrate, Sodium Benzoate, Lactic Acid.

This gel contains vitamin E (Tocopheryl Acetate), a powerful antioxidant. Other good ingredients are Glycerin, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride and Sodium PCA, great at hydrating the skin.

In general, this is a simple, no fuss, non-sensitizing ingredient list. There’s nothing really innovative, or that’s targeted to specific skin concerns, other than replenishing hydration and moisture. The gel texture makes this very pleasant to use on oily skin – it’s very cooling, but dries down quickly to a non-sticky, non-heavy feeling.

Simple Water Boost Hydrating Gel Cream texture. Absorbs really fast.

It’s cheap, it’s effective, it’s reliable. And if you have that tricky skin type where even though oily, your skin is still dehydrated and sensitive, this is a good bet – it will work at hydrating without feeling heavy or flaring up your skin. Give it a go.
