Makeup Log – 4th week: in which the goddamn virus cuts this project short.

Makeup Log is a series where I keep a record of the makeup looks I tried during the work week, the combinations of products I used and how they work out for me in an attempt to find the perfect makeup look for my wedding day. Because I’m crazy and I’ll be doing my own makeup.

I’ve been in a streak of bad luck. I don’t mean the coronavirus, which actually is putting the entire wedding party at risk – but that motherf*cker is everybody’s streak of bad luck, I’m aware. It’s just everything else around me that just. doesn’t. work.

The shop where I got my wedding dress was sold on, and the new management is very irresponsible, to say the least. The dress was supposed to be done but not only is it not, there’s no estimate of when it will be, and I suspect I’m going to end up having to go ahead and pay for the adjustments out of pocket someplace else. And, of course, the dress is fully paid for. This topic could be it’s own post.

Then, my place of work has some bug with the platform where we log our hours and I’m at risk to have my next payment cut in half due to an error that’s not even mine.

My tenants are leaving in three months. That would be a minor issue in normal conditions, but I don’t know if my place will be easy to rent in this virus-climate. I don’t even know if I’ll be allowed to have house showings. Goddamn.

Cherry on top: we have to work from home. I don’t like to work from home. It taints the “home” concept. It’s not like we can go work at a coffee shop. And there’s no reason to do my makeup now.

Sigh.

Monday

This was the only day I took a picture of the look. I wore Smashbox’s Primerizer and the Shiseido foundation and it actually looked good and lasted the whole day.

Products used:

  • Smashbox’s Primerizer
  • Shiseido UV Protective Liquid Foundation in Medium Ivory
  • Clinique Almost Powder Makeup in 03 light
  • Jouer Flirt Blush Duo in shade “touch me”
  • UDPP
  • MUFE 9 Artist Shadow Palette: I-528 on the browbone, ME-644 on the lid and S-556 on the crease.
  • Guerlain Eyeshadow Duo in 08 Two Spicy (the brown shade on the outer corner)
  • Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara
  • Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Eye Crayon in shade Blacquer
  • Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Eye Pencil in shade Double Life
  • Huda Beauty Resting Boss Face Setting Spray

Tuesday

I had to wake up at an ungodly hour for a medical appointment – I might have gastritis, just my luck. Again. Anyway, I didn’t make myself wake up even earlier to do a proper eye look, but I did repeat the skin base products combination of the day before. I’m not sure that was a good idea though, because I had a bunch of little bumps on the nose by the end of the day. The next day I switched my routine again and they disappeared.

  • Smashbox’s Primerizer

  • Clinique Almost Powder Makeup in 03 light
  • Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara
  • Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Eye Crayon in shade Blacquer

Wednesday

The last day before the office told us all to work from home. I didn’t even remember to take a picture for the day. I did, however, remember to try out the Cargo Catalina blush as a potential wedding blush candidate after I saw it reviewed on Kristen’s blog – and it’s a very pretty pink, but still too pink for the wedding day (I know, I’m weird).

Products used:

  • Nivea Men’s Aftershave Balm
  • Catrice HD Liquid Coverage foundation in 010 Light Beige
  • Cargo Blush in Catalina
  • UDPP
  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Sultry palette: Slate shade in the crease, Rose Quartz on the lid and Fresh on the brow bone.
  • Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara
  • Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Eye Crayon in shade Blacquer
  • Huda Beauty Resting Boss Face Setting Spray

And for Thursday and Friday there was no makeup, because I was home. I think I’ll be doing my makeup even if I’m at home. I have to do something, right? At least makeup relaxes me.

Let’s hope for a better week next time.
