Review, Swatches, Comparison | Supergoop! Glow Screen and Unseen Sunscreen

Supergoop (not to be confused or assumed to be a spin-off of Goop, the vagina-smelling candle manufacturer) is a beauty brand dedicated to sunscreen, particularly by finding ways to get people to incorporate SPF in their routine. And dedicated they are. Sunscreen never looked so different.

I have two of their most popular products, and both are advertised as good makeup primers, so that’s the lens through which I’ll be reviewing them: the Unscreen Sunscreen, a clear and scentless sunscreen, and Glow Screen, a tinted sunscreen with a glow-y finish.

I have multiple of the mini sizes for both of them – at this point, I have more than the amount of a full sized bottle of each.

Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen Review

Like the name suggests, the Unseen Sunscreen is a colourless sunscreen, with no scent, a silicone type of texture and a matte finish on the skin. Yet, it has broad spectrum SPF30. I never saw anything like this. It solves most issues people have with sunscreen: strong scent, looking shiny, white cast on darker skintones. As a sunscreen, this is perfect for anyone and everyone. 10 out of 10.

As a primer, due to the silicone like texture, the Unseen Sunscreen looks like it’s going to be mattifying and pore smoothing, but ends up not really doing either. I could not tell a difference, after applying foundation, between the side of my face that had primer and the one that didn’t. I also expected it to cause my foundation to ball up and flake off, because that usually happens when I use silicone based primers, but that didn’t happen either. My foundation applied and blended out perfectly fine.

What I did noticed was that it gripped foundation a lot more than just my moisturised skin. Makes foundation stick to it, so you have to be aware of patches and make sure you blend out everything well.

I noticed the primer made some foundations last a bit longer and a bit nicer, by avoiding creasing and oily migration. I did not feel it made a difference on long wearing foundations though.

Supergoop! Glow Screen in Sunrise Review

review comparison supergoop glow screen

Supergoop’s Glow Screen looks and feels like a subtle liquid illuminator, rather than a tinted moisturizer. Once again, a texture and application experience that is completely atypical for a sunscreen. I have the original shade, Sunrise, which is a warm champagne beige.

Under a full coverage foundation, I couldn’t tell I was wearing the primer. The glow was not visible after I applied the foundation on top, and certainly not after I powdered down my base. The shine does come through if you wear a sheer foundation – but then again, once you set it with powder, you might not be able to see it.

I also didn’t noticed a difference in longevity. It didn’t hurt, but it didn’t make my foundation last longer. Foundation applied well over it, just like it does with a regular moisturiser.

Where I feel this shines (pun intended) is when using it by itself. The tint evens out my complexion, so when I’m having a good skin day I feel this is enough. I don’t even feel the need to powder over the Glow Screen because even though it has a shine, it’s not oily and my skin does not get oilier throughout the day with it. It’s a quick step that makes me look 10 times better without the need for actual makeup.

Comparison and Final Thoughts

Objectively looking at their performance as a primer, the Unseen Sunscreen is the best. But the Glow Screen is the one I’ll repurchase.

Honestly, I think these are much better if you think of them as sunscreens and not exclusively as primers. There are no sunscreens like it in the market. They won’t make you feel and look oily. They will not give you a white cast. Both work for all skintones (the Glow Screen now comes in 4 shades to accommodate everybody). And they will not disturb your makeup, nor make it underperform. Seriously, these are the best sunscreens I’ve ever tried.

But the one I like the most is Glow Screen because I can and do use it by itself. That little bit of coverage makes my skin look great, and the glow never turns oily. That, and a little bit of liner, is all I need some days. Nevertheless, both products are amazing.
