Kiko has been coming out with some aesthetically pleasing products. I’m admitting it – the only reason I indulged in the Precious Rituals collection was because the packaging reminded me of those beautiful Guerlain bronzers that come in a wooden compact. I had no expectations for these two, they really only had to be pretty for me to be satisfied, but guess what, the hot stuff is very nice too.
Top 7 | Favourite Cream and Liquid Eyeshadows (2021)
Are you lazy? I know I am. It’s a sign of intelligence, according to some article in some magazine that was based on some study by I don’t know who and that I didn’t bother to check the veracity or validity of. I’m good with just getting my news from a headline when it serves me. Part of my laziness.
All of this elaborate paragraph just to make an intro to this post about cream eyeshadows, because they’re perfect if you’re in a hurry or are just, and here’s the connection, lazy. These cream shadows don’t require a tool to be applied (other than your finger for some of them), last all day and they’re all it takes for you to achieve a nice, polished eyeshadow look.
My Wedding Makeup
Last year, before the pandemic derailed everything, I started a series called Makeup Log, where I posted my daily makeup looks in order to keep a record of different product combinations, so that I could find the perfect makeup look for my wedding day. Because I would be doing it myself.
With over a year of minimal makeup wear and a wedding date set to May, I should have started practicing around March. At least. But I’m a procrastinator first and a bride second, so two weeks before the date felt like enough time to me. Two days before was when I actually started.
Top 5 | Best Products from KIKO (2021)
As of today, my most viewed post is a review of Kiko’s Sunshine Tuscan Blushes. I guess I understand why, since Kiko is one of those brands that has a huge line and frequently comes out with limited edition collections, yet there aren’t that many reviews out there.
They also have really good sales and are known for some high end dupes. But they tend to discontinue a lot of their core products, and I have tried more than one dud. So here are my recommendations for Kiko permanent collection products if you want to try the brand, (or just want to enlarge your collection and are checking what else to get to reach the free shipping value, like I usually do. Can’t be having those makeup drawers with any extra room, right?).
Makeup Empties – The Good, The Bad and The Tossed
I’ve mentioned before I don’t believe in declutters – I have a more medieval approach towards my makeup products: I keep them to serve as penitence for wasted money and to discourage myself from wasting more. So the only way anything leaves my makeup collection is either by getting used up or unmistakably turning bad.
So let’s see what products have managed to leave my Alcatraz of a vanity.
Review, Swatches | Kiko Tuscan Sunshine Blushes: 01 Florence Dreams and 02 Tuscan Iris
Kiko is currently having a sale on their website and these blushes are 50% off. Plus, even if they get out of stock sometimes they come back – I bought the Tuscan Iris shade two months ago when the collection released and Florence Dreams (the lightest one) was sold out, and now it’s back in stock and for half price.
Bronzer Bonanza – A collection review
Bronzer was, for a long time, my least favourite makeup item. I never really understood how to use it because people kept giving contradictory instructions: “apply to the higher points of the face, where the sun naturally hits you”, they say, while demonstrating that you should apply on the temples, under the cheekbone and on the jawline. WTF?
I’m sorry, but my temples are not a high point of the face. That would be the forehead, bridge and tip of the nose, and cheekbone. That’s what gets sunburned.
Words aside, the temple-cheekbone-jawline thing is actually the way to go, I find. Once I made amends with the technique and managed to get myself flatteringly tanned, the collection grew. And here we are.
Like in the last collection post, the ones marked with a ♥ are my most used favourites.
Glow Galore – a highlighter collection review
Collection posts are fun. At least I love to read them. It’s like someone giving a tour of their candy shop. And you go along and think “I want that. And that. And that one. I want that…”.
I’ll give a short description/overview of each product here. If you have questions about a specific one or even would like a more in-depth review, feel free to ask in the comments. The ones marked with a ♥ are my most used favourites.
A 5 (ish) min makeup routine – tips & products
I love makeup. Like, hoarder style. My collection is way too big for just me and I love it that way.
…but I love sleep even more. So here’s a 5 min makeup routine with less than 10 products. Ready? Let’s go:
