A (Big) Little Update

By the end of last year I was able to come up with a pretty consistent posting schedule. Then it all came to a halt. What happened?

I got pregnant.

Yep. Pregnancy alone takes up quite a chunk of my time and attention, plus we’ve moved late last year and are still in the process of getting our flat together (which has a whole new sense of urgency now, with a baby on the way). I’ve had my hands full, no doubt, and on top of all of this I got Covid. Right in the middle of my first trimester.

You know what I came to find out those two things combined cause? Extreme exhaustion. I could barely do my regular 9 to 5 job. I really didn’t want to “abandon” this blog since I was on a roll and had so many new posts lined up, but when the body doesn’t want to, the mind can’t do sh*t about it.

Also, I had morning sickness that turns out, doesn’t just happen in the mornings. I had no energy and no patience to wear makeup. Heck, I barely had it in me to just go and take a shower. I felt (and still kind of do) like a big, amorphous blob that doesn’t fit into anything anymore and would rather be sleeping than doing anything else. I slowly came out of that state when Covid symptoms finally went away and we fixed my iron deficiency (pregnancy depletes you of everything), but you’re never really back to normal. I feel like I constantly need a vacation to get caught up on things, and when I do have a vacation I spend it resting and don’t get caught up with anything.

Anyway, I’m much better now. Much bigger too. I’m currently in the middle of my second trimester, and although more tired and with a bigger to do list than ever (nursery decorating, baby gear shopping lists, trying to find childcare), I’m back to normal, as normal as one can be at this point.

I’m going to try to get back into the swing of things. I really miss this.

P.S. – Yes, I’m wearing sneakers in that picture. Don’t judge me. I’m pregnant.

  1. This is amazing news! Big congratulations on your pregnancy! Sorry to hear you got Covid during the first trimester. I’m glad to hear you are feeling better now.
I know exactly how you feel, I had the same symptoms as you when I was pregnant. I felt awful the first trimester, energy depleted, constantly sleeping, morning sicknes all day long… I also suffered from iron deficiency. I felt better by the end of my pregnancy but by then I was so big I felt really uncomfortable. For me the best came when my son was born and the time I spent with him on maternity leave. I remember that time as the happiest in my life. I hope you get more energy from now on and can dedicate time to your blog. Just a warning, when the baby is born you won’t have time for anything other than your baby, at least for the following 5 years!

    1. Thank you so much for your words! It’s so nice to hear from someone who had a happy maternity leave. All I hear is people talking about how hard the first few months are, and I’m sure that’s true, but it’s almost like it’s something you “have to get through” instead of enjoying it. I hope I have that experience too. I know time is going to be scarce, it already is, but I’m hoping I can find a way to keep blogging, even if it’s just a little bit once in a while. This is good for my soul 🙂

      1. For me it was hard when I had to get back to work when my son was 4 months old. That’s when I felt utterly exahausted, but when I was on maternity leave I coped just fine and I really enjoyed being a mom, even though I had to wake up three or four times every night. I’m sure you’ll find a way to cope with everything and will enjoy being a mum too.

        1. That makes sense, the hardest part being returning to work. We’ll see, I think I still might be working from home by that time so less wasted time on transportation. Whatever it is,it’s going to be fine 🙂
