It’s been a while since I lasted posted about an outfit. Yes, this used to be a beauty and style blog. But the type of work I do can be done from home, and with the streets closed and the events cancelled, one can never find an occasion to strut their stuff – and I got a lot of new stuff to strut during the quarantine.
This time, we went to a wedding. How I have missed this: getting dolled up, with a full beat and a dress to premier, and spend time talking, drinking and dancing the night away.
I remember looking at the promotional pictures for Marchesa Notte Pre-fall 2019 collection – it’s one of their more beautiful collections from more recent years, in my opinion. The dresses have this airy quality about them, uber feminine but sombre, and are filled with flower designs and embroideries. The collection looks like it’s inspired by a forest in bloom, at night.
I didn’t think I would be able to get one of these dresses for myself, but alas, I did.
Mine is a mid length, A-line cocktail dress, with some ruching on the top half, around the plunging neckline and back, and there are 3D fabric flowers sewn all over, top to bottom. There is also some padding that makes the cleavage look more “vivacious”, specially for chest-destitute girls like me.
It’s a very flattering shape. If you’re wondering about fit, Marchesa is an American brand, so sizes tend to run a bit large – this is a size zero, the smallest they make, and it fits me perfectly now. I used to be a 34 but I’m currently between a 34 and 36 in French sizes (thank you, quarantine) and I think this would fit a size 36 comfortably as well. If you’re a petite girl it will be hard to find a Marchesa dress that fits with no need for alterations.
I paired the dress with the pink Moschino pumps that I’ve talked about at length here, and I’m happy to report they’re reasonably comfortable. I’m a ride or die fan of heels, so I’m used to torture, but still, first time wearing them, for 13 hours straight, with a ton of dancing, my feet did hurt at the end but there were no blisters or wounds.
To finish the look, I wore my new round bag from L’Autre Chose. A birthday gift from me to myself (aren’t those always the best?). I’ve had my eye on L’Autre Chose bags for a while now and decided to take the plunge on this round, flat white leather bag that makes a statement while still being neutral enough to not clash with a bold dress.
I need to have more of my friends getting married. Dressing up is fun.

Oh I miss the weddings and party events too! It´s so lovely to create an outfit and then getting ready to have a great day out! Beautiful dress -I recently got a similar cut dress but in black-, bag and sandals. Three very different styles that pair wonderfully well, creating a chic, playful and unique ensemble. Hope there will be more style posts coming up from you!
