Review | Sweet Chef Ginger + Vitamin C Fresh Pressed Sheet Mask

With this year’s pandemic that made it so that I can barely leave the house, makeup only gets dusted off for poorly lit zoom calls and clothes get neglected for near-rag pyjamas, so at what other thing can I throw my money to cloud and numb the cold, harsh reality with frivolous consumerism? Skincare.

Yep, I’m a skincare fiend now.

And when that happens you end up with a lot of sheet masks. It’s part of the welcome package. Gifts with purchases, beauty subscriptions, sets, you name it – there’s always a sheet mask in there.

The Ginger + Vitamin C sheet mask from Sweet Chef promises to brighten dark spots and uneven skintone. It contains glycerin and other hydrating ingredients, so it should feel moisturizing as well.

The ginger in this mask is in the root extract form, not the oil, so it won’t be irritating for the skin, and it’s a good antioxidant. It’s actually the 5th ingredient, followed by vitamin C, and centella asiatica which is also an antioxidant and skin-soothing ingredient. The publicized key ingredients are very high up in the ingredients list, which is something I’m always happy to see – they deliver what they promise.

On the downside, this does contains multiple fragrant components (rose, linalool, my arch-nemesis lavender) but they come last in the ingredient list. Still, I’d rather if they weren’t there.

I wore this mask for 20 minutes after taking a shower. I didn’t rinse it off, like the instructions indicated, and if left a kind of oily feel on my skin, somewhat sticky. Like I just applied a thick moisturizer. I’m not a fan of that feeling, but this did leave my skin moisturized. I’d recommend applying this at night, or at a time you won’t have to leave the house.

The sheet mask has some doodles and writing on it. Made me feel like Post Malone for a second.

The following day, which is when I usually notice the effects of the mask from the night before, my skin was indeed brighter – like when I apply a heavy vitamin C serum. To help diminish dark spots and hyperpigmentation, you really need to apply vitamin C on a regular basis, but a mask like this does give a brighter, more radiant skintone overnight.

I liked it and would recommend if you have an important event the next day and need a good skin day.

You know, if we ever leave the house again.

    1. I think they’re worth it! If your skin isn’t too sensitive than fragrance shouldn’t be much of a problem, plus the good thing is that it’s very low on the ingredients list šŸ™‚
