Makeup Log- 1st Week, in which I start off the project

I’m doing my own makeup at my wedding, that was exactly 3 months away at the beginning of this week. So I’ve been practising. I’m keeping a record of the combinations of products and how they work out for me – in terms of durability, how they look, colour combinations, etc, so I thought, why not share? It may be useful for someone and forces me to keep a photographic log of the looks I tried, what I used and how my skin looked.

Monday

The white eyeshadow I used all over the eyelid was too cool toned. A beige or cream would work better. The foundation looked a bit cake-y. I used a brush to apply it though, might have worked better with a beauty blender. I forgot to take a picture of the eye look right after I finished doing my makeup, so I had to take it in the office’s bathroom.

Products used:

  • Clarins Instant Smooth Base
  • Catrice HD Liquid Coverage foundation in 010 Light Beige

Tuesday

Today I decided to bust out my single eyeshadows. I also confirmed what the perfect primer for the wedding was, in longevity and smoothing abilities. Skin texture just disappears. The Avon eyeliner is great, but not for the waterline. I’m starting to get the hang of filling in my brows. And this Ciaté blush doesn’t need a highlighter on top.

I also could use a bit of contour on my round face, and under eye concealer.

Products used:

Wednesday

I was on a major rush so I fell back into my 5 minute basic routine. No eye look this time, it was just eyeliner on the waterline and mascara. Still remembered to try another foundation with the Nivea Aftershave Balm as a primer – and that primer is magical. The Marc Jacobs mascara might be my favourite ever. I have to check if they make a waterproof version.

Thursday

Just trying to use up the MUFE stick foundation. The “stick” part is gone, now we have a dip. I’m starting to understand the hype around the Laura Mercier loose powder: you can apply 5 layers that it won’t look different on the skin from just a single layer. No added cakey-ness. I’m very impressed. I used the NARS Man Ray palette today – felt like trying something more warm toned.

Products used:

  • Guerlain Météorites Perfecting Perles primer

Friday

The theme for today’s products seems to be “discontinued”. That Jelly Jungle mascara from Kiko is no good. It never was any good and now it’s expired. Kiko has some of the best and worst mascara I’ve tried. I need to start trying out different blush and highlighter combinations for the wedding makeup: I’m thinking a light pink blush, or a very neutral beige, and I’m still not sure if I want a strong or subtle highlight. Sir Fiancé liked today’s look the most – even though it could’ve used more blending.

Products used:

  • Illamasqua Hydra Veil Rehydrating Gel
  • Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Stick Foundation in Y315
  • Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder
  • Estée Lauder Signature blush in 01 Tender Petal
  • NYX Mosaic Powder in 01 Highlighter
  • UDPP
  • NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk
  • Sephora Eyeshadow in Cashmere Coat
  • H&M eyeshadow in Fine China

  • Kiko Jelly Jungle waterproof mascara in 01 Active Black
  • Milani Liquif’eye eye liner pencil in 04 Aqua
  • Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil
  • Huda Beauty Resting Boss Face Setting Spray

The Nivea Aftershave Balm beats any other primer by a long shot. The Clinique Pretty Easy liquid liner and the Urban Decay Primer Potion are also amazing. And I’ll be using the Urban Decay setting spray on the wedding day vs the Huda Beauty one, but might as well use this last one up.

Everything else remains pretty mush undecided.
